Palestinian terrorist organization Black September infiltrated Olympic Village in September 1972. Terrorists killed 11 Israeli athletes and coaches. Adidas Spokesman Stefan Pursche apologized for upset caused by the recent advertisement. However, he did not say whether Adidas would remove Hadid from the ads.

Nach Antisemitismus-Vorwürfen will der Sportartikel-Hersteller Adidas eine Werbekampagne mit US-Topmodel Bella Hadid ändern. Das bestätigte der Konzern auf Anfrage der Katholischen Nachrichten-Agentur (KNA).

Gegenstand des Streits ist eine Neuauflage des Sneaker-Modells "SL 72", das ursprünglich für die Olympischen Spiele in München 1972 entwickelt worden war. Mehrere jüdische Organisationen empfinden die Marketing-Aktion vor dem Hintergrund des damaligen Olympia-Attentats als respektlos. Damals wurden mehrere israelische Sportler von palästinensischen Terroristen ermordet. Hinzu kommt, dass Bella Hadid zuletzt mehrfach israelfeindliche Äußerungen vorgeworfen wurden. Ihr Vater ist Palästinenser.

Ein Adidas-Sprecher teilte der KNA nun mit: "Wir sind uns bewusst, dass Verbindungen zu tragischen historischen Ereignissen hergestellt wurden - auch wenn diese völlig unbeabsichtigt sind - und wir entschuldigen uns für jegliche Verärgerung oder Leid, die dadurch verursacht wurden. Aus diesem Grund überarbeiten wir die Kampagne." Nähere Angaben zu den geplanten Änderungen machte das Unternehmen nicht.

Zusammenarbeit mit Hadid bleibt offen

Die Kampagne für den "SL 72" war am Montag vorgestellt worden. Die internationale Organisation Combat Antisemitism Movement erklärte am Donnerstag: "Dass Adidas sich für Hadid entschieden hat, die ständig gegen Juden hetzt und den jüdischen Staat angreift, ist schon schlimm genug. Aber dass sie einen Schuh auf den Markt bringen, der an eine Olympiade erinnert, bei der so viel jüdisches Blut vergossen wurde, ist einfach nur krank."

Ähnlich reagierte die US-Organisation StopAntisemitism. Auch der Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland äußerte Unverständnis. Die israelische Botschaft in Berlin schaltete sich ebenfalls in den Streit ein. Auf der Online-Plattform X schrieb sie: "Raten Sie mal, wer das Gesicht der Kampagne ist? Bella Hadid, ein Model mit palästinensischen Wurzeln, das in der Vergangenheit Antisemitismus verbreitete und zu Gewalt gegen Israelis und Juden aufrief."

Adidas versicherte zwar, die Kampagne zu ändern. Ob die Zusammenarbeit mit Hadid bestehen bleibt oder nicht, bleibt indes vorerst offen. Bereits 2022 hatte Adidas nach Antisemitismusvorwürfen gegen Kanye West ("Ye") die zuvor höchst erfolgreiche Partnerschaft mit dem US-Rapper beendet. Die Produktion der Marke "Yeezy" wurde eingestellt; die Folgen belasteten das vergangene Geschäftsjahr erheblich.

Für das Revival eines Laufschuhes hat Adidas das Model Bella Hadid verpflichtet, das mit antisemitischen Äußerungen auffiel. „Adidas hatte vor zwei Jahren schon einen Antisemitismus-Skandal mit Kanye West“, erinnert Journalistin Antonia Yamin.
